Watercolor Landscape Painting by Susain Art

Watercolour is also known as aquarelle ( in French), is a wet painting medium/ method and translucent when applied to the paper surface. It is the fastest medium for painting or illustrating from the other mediums. you can edit another layer of paint once it is completely dried.

Thick and cold-pressed paper with a good quality of handmade sheet/paper (made of cotton with a thickness of around 200-300 gsm) is mainly used for the best watercolour painting result and which gives a remarkable texture and appearance.

In the painting, I have used high-quality handmade paper, left some areas blank with no colour where the white colour was needed (the bridge and some of the lake area) and added the white colour to the other colours where there was a need to make the colour more opaque. Starting from the fundamental basic paint wash, after that adding different layers of colours and give it a finishing blow through fine and small details, this is the process which one can learn through lots of practice and as we all know that practise makes a man perfect, so keep practising.

What is wash and types of washes?

Wash: when we apply a wet colour through a brush onto the paper surface which results in a smooth and identical area that ideally lacks the appearance of brush strokes with a semi-transparent layer of colour transparent.

Types of washes: Flat wash, Mixed wash, Gradient Wash

Flat wash is basically when we apply a wet single colour through a brush onto the paper surface which results in a smooth and uniform area that ideally lacks the appearance of brush strokes or no patches with a semi-transparent layer of colour transparent.

Mixed wash: when we apply two wet colours one after other through a brush onto the paper surface which results in the double shade, Variation in tone and shade but smooth texture (colours mixed well with each other)

Gradient Wash: Applying two or three colours onto the surface which appears in a light colour tone to dark colour tone or variation in the shade of colours.
